日本の自衛隊の戦闘服は綿・ビニロン混である。綿は風合いを補助するために混紡されているのであり、素材的な主役はビニロンとなる。なぜビニロンなのかというと、きちんと理由がある。ビニロンは国産合繊であり、石灰岩を原料にすることができる。これは日本国内にほぼ無尽蔵にある。つまり、海外に粗原料を依存しない唯一の合繊なのである。
